British Chancellor George Osborne has called for drastic changes to Britain’s membership of the European Union.
Addressing a group of about 1,200 German industry bosses at an event in Berlin, he said: ”We want Britain to remain in a reformed European Union, but it needs to be a European Union that works better for all the citizens of Europe – and works better for Britain too,” he said.
Earlier, British Prime Minister David Cameron promised to renegotiate the terms of Britain’s EU membership before holding an in-out referendum by the end of 2017, and Germany plays a key role in those negotiations as the bloc’s largest economy.
According to Osborne, the existing legal framework does not support that relationship.
