‘Western Leaders Are War Criminals’

By Mick Meaney - RINF |

The former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, has echoed calls for Western leaders to be charged with war crimes over the invasion of Iraq.

Speaking at Imperial College in London Mahathir, who was in office from 1981 to 2003, singled out US President George Bush, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Australia’s former prime minister John Howard as he wants to see them tried “in absence for war crimes committed in Iraq”.

The event was organised by the Ramadhan Foundation which is a leading British Muslim youth organisation working for peaceful co-existence and dialogue between communities.

Mohammed Shafiq, spokesman for the group said: “It was an opportunity for students to put a range of questions about war crimes and the international situation. He said that people have to stop killing each other and use arbitration, negotiation and discussion as an alternative to violence, war and killing.”

Speaking about the Iraq war, Mahathir focused on “the thousands dying, the economic war, the power of oil and how we could utilise some of these tools to have a leverage against the people who commit countries to war”, Shafiq said.

The event was incredibly well attended with over 450 people and 200 more had to be turned away.

Among the mountain of war crimes Western leaders are guilty of include:-

The illegal use of napalm and other chemical weapons

Intentionally torturing and abusing detainees

Blocking aid convoys

Killing unarmed civilians, including shooting into family homes

Western leaders are also guilty of many other violations of the Geneva Convention, the Charter of the United Nations, the Nuremberg Charter, International Law and the Constitution of the United States, including crimes against peace and crimes against humanity.

International law professors have called the attack against Iraq “a fundamental breach of international law (that) would seriously threaten the integrity of the international legal order that has been in place since the end of the Second World War.”

Mahathir Mohamad’s statement appears to be valid as the International Criminal Court defines the following as international crimes:

(a) Crimes against Peace:

Namely, planning, preparation, initiation or waging of a war of aggression, or a war in violation of international treaties, agreements or assurances, or participation in a common plan or conspiracy for the accomplishment of any of the foregoing:

(b) War Crimes:

Namely, violations of the laws or customs of war. Such violations include, but not be limited to, murder, ill-treatment or deportation to slave labor or for any other purpose of civilian population of or in occupied territory, murder or ill-treatment of prisoners of war or persons on the seas, killing of hostages, plunder of public or private property, wanton destruction of cities, towns or villages, or devastation not justified by military necessity:

(c) Crimes against Humanity:

Namely, murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation, and other inhumane acts committed against any civilian population, before or during the war, or persecutions on political, racial or religious grounds in execution of or in connection with any crime within the jurisdiction of the Tribunal, whether or not in violation of the domestic law of the country where perpetrated.

Too bloody right. John Howard, George Bush and Tony Blair must be charged with War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity if we are to return to and maintain integrity in International Law and International norms of justice, fairplay, all of the protocols amd established conventions.

Mahathir is a gladiator for peace as is Jimmy Carter.

Good onyou lock these War criminal up.

Bush, Cheney, Condi, Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Tony Blair, John Howard are all war criminals and should be tried in Hague for Crimes Against Humanity.

I agree so many international laws were broken over the illegal regime change in iraq that it makes a total mockery of the very laws in place too stop violation of HUMAN RIGHTS ! . The leaders mentioned by the contributers above are totally correct . By those leaders breaking and violating those laws that are supposed too stop war crimes in the first place they effectively became WAR CRIMINALS themselves and by said laws they should be tried in the HAGUE!!! .

1 agree with the above comments, there are many more names that should be added to the list, especially Henry Kissinger! But how can any of these criminals be brought to Justice when they & their cronies not only control the system but change the laws & its definitions to suit their own agenda. What will be their excuse for invading Iran? Lies & more lies

I completely agree there should be more names to the list. Every politician who voted for this war is guilty.

Maybe that’s a bit harsh but certainly those who misled us should be held accountable.

Profiteering would also be top of my list Chevron, CACI, Bechtel, Aegis, Titan etc. Although some have been found guilty of fraud the wider political connections have been relatively ignored.

The conclusion is a foregone one too. They are all three, War Criminals.

As an Australian I am completely supportive of John Howard, George Bush and Tony Blair being charged with the ultimate War Crime, which is an unprovoked war of aggression. Everything else follows on from there.

May it happen soon, and may it at least happen in our lifetimes.

I agreed with Dr Mahathir. These three western leaders are war criminals and greatest violation of human rights. They should hold responsible for the death of thousands of innocent Iraqi.

The ICC prosecutors need to take heed, unless they want to be described as Western political stooges. The likes of John Scarlett are no less guilty and must be prosecuted.

The ICC has a habit of going after minor functionaries from smaller nations, and is used by the West as another weapon to punish noncompliance with their demands.

The ICC needs to regain its credibility.

I would agree with all those statemants that have gone before . I find it incredulous that if we the ordinary man and woman on the street were to kill a single person then we would face a severe punishment and thats how it should be , but the politicians mentioned above are responsible for wholesale genocide on a massive scale and that includes women and children . I am affraid that the system protects itself and these people will get away with it and that makes me sick . At least the ordinary people are seeing these warmongers for the animals that they truly are and that the best we can hope for is that history remembers them very unkindley! . But that of course will not bring back the dead on both sides .

All are guilty of mass murder in Iraq and Afghanistan. I would also call upon the media lackeys who obeyed political masters in a mass coverup of the truth.

It will be difficult prosecuting gangsters when they and their controllers own the courts.

Israel has blithely ignored international law for decades, since it’s inception. They set a precedent which has clearly now spread around the world, like cancer.

The former Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad is absolutely right, Bush, Blair and their cronies need to be arrested, tried and punished for their crimes against humanity.

It is perversely ironic that the Americans were the major players in the War Crime Tribunals at Nuremberg after the Second World War and from that, came the International Agreements of what constitutes a War crime and these leaders are completely guilty by their corrupt actions.

Whilst I would prefer to see no more Nuclear weapons, I do not fear Iran having a nuclear capability, but I do fear Bush who is much more dangerous.

The aforementioned “people” remind me of the reptiles in the movie The Matrix. Sociopath’s have no regard for others. Trained from an early age, the elite, some call them that, need to have their silver spoon replaced.

Im an Aussie too and I agree that the evil trio needs to be held accountable for war crimes and misdemeanors against humanity, though they are only a few on a long list.
We the people have the power and it is up to us to use it in a peaceful way and amass in great numbers and hold a world wide rally and demand justice be done in the name of we the people. Do you remember the movie from the 50s “When the Earth stood still”
    “Power to the people!”
