The United Kingdom police bill for staking out Ecuador’s embassy in London to make sure WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange doesn’t flee has already reached over a million pounds. Scotland Yard confirmed it is costing 11,000 pounds a day to ensure the Australian does not flee his bolthole.
According to the Daily Mail, the final bill could be much more as Assange continues hiding in the building in a bid to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning over allegations of sexually assaulting two women.
Officers have been watching the property in Knightsbridge since the 41-year-old founder of the whistle blowing website breached his bail and claimed asylum in June. The UK police have been ordered to arrest him if he puts ‘one toe’ outside.
Meanwhile, Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Ricardo Pinto has said Assange could be in the embassy for a decade if he is not allowed to leave Britain.
