The chief constable of South Yorkshire Police, David Crompton, will appear in front of the Home Affairs Select Committee to answer MPs’ questions about the Hillsborough tragedy.
An independent report into the 1989 incident at Sheffield Wednesday’s stadium revealed failings from the local authorities and attempts to blame Liverpool fans in the aftermath.
The committee’s chairman, Keith Vaz MP, is aiming to determine whether those who are responsible are being fully investigated.
The Hillsborough Family Support Group’s legal advisor, former solicitor general Lord Falconer, is also set to appear in order to advise what measures should be taken against those responsible.
Mr Vaz told the Liverpool Echo: “It is imperative that justice is done for the victims and their families.
“The committee will be seeking assurances that South Yorkshire police are taking action to ensure officers who have committed alleged wrongdoing are investigated.
“We also want to ensure the views of the victims’ families on the matter are acted upon.”
Mr Crompton, who was appointed to his post in January 2012 has already issued a full apology after the findings were published and admitted senior officers at the time “sought to change the record of events”.
He has also insisted that he and others questioned will be “fully transparent in helping to find answers to the questions posed by the panel”.
