American journalist Mark Glenn says the United States seeks to diminish the power of Iran in the Middle East in order to promote Israel as œthe chief uncontested bully” of the region.
œThey need to have Iran removed in order for Israel to remain the chief uncontested bully of the Middle East,” he told Press TV on Wednesday.
œI think first and foremost we have to understand that Israel is not worried about Iran obtaining nuclear weapons. It™s just a red herring that Israel is using for justification for continued sanctions against Iran,” Glenn explained.
US allies in the Middle East, Israel in particular, fear that a œhistoric” deal Washington and five other world powers clenched with Iran will pave the country™s path to even greater regional power.
After the deal was announced on Sunday, President Barack Obama spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to assuage his concerns.
Obama reassured Netanyahu that the United States œwill remain firm in our commitment to Israel, which has good reason to be skeptical about Iran™s intentions.”
The analyst said Israel is concerned about Iran™s power in the region.
œWhat is going on here is that Benjamin Netanyahu and his party understand that Iran threatens Israeli hegemony in the Middle East because Iran is a very stable country,” with vast natural resources, Glenn said.
œIran cannot be pushed around or bullied the way that many Arab countries have been.”
