US Navy chopper down off Virginia coast

A United States Navy helicopter with five people abroad is down off the coast of Virginia, prompting a search and rescue effort.

The helicopter crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Norfolk on Wednesday morning, according to the Navy.

Four people were rescued and the search was under way for one more crew member.

The chopper, which was a CH-53E Super Stallion, transports heavy equipment and supplies for amphibious assault.

The incident occurred one day after four American airmen were killed when a US military helicopter crashed on the east coast of England.

The Pave Hawk helicopter crashed near the east England town of Salthouse on the Norfolk coast. The victims were members of the 56th Rescue Squadron.
