US drones cause ‘collateral damage’

The deadly US drone assassination program usually involves œcollateral damage,” the destruction of civilian property and civilian casualties, according to an award-winning former newspaper reporter and author.

œIn every war, there™s always what we call collateral damage…and drones seem to be doing a good job of bringing us back collateral damage,” said Walter Brasch on Saturday.

œI don™t like the idea of going after civilian targets, I don™t like the idea of going after American citizens who may be terrorists without having them brought to justice in a court trial,” he added.

US drone strikes are causing outrage in Pakistan where thousands of protesters took to the streets Friday in the latest show of public anger at the attacks.

The demonstrations took place in the cities of Peshawar, Multan and Lahore. The angry protesters chanted slogans against the US, setting its flag on fire.

The protests were triggered after three people died in the latest US drone attack in Pakistan™s tribal region in the northwest.

US protesters also staged a demonstration in front of the UN headquarters in New York on Saturday, demanding an end to US drone attacks in Pakistan which have killed thousands of civilians, Press TV reports.

Dozens of Pakistani-Americans and anti-war activists shouted œDrones Fly, Children Die”, and carried placards saying that the remotely controlled aircraft violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan.

Washington claims the strikes are part of its so-called war on terror and kill militants. However, reports on the ground show that civilians often fall victim to the strikes.
