UK Scottish Secretary axed in reshuffle

Britain’s Scottish Secretary Michael Moore has been sacked in the cabinet reshuffle less than a year before independence vote, signaling a more attacking approach in the run-up to the 2014 referendum.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg replaced Moore with Alistair Carmichael as secretary of state for Scotland, saying a change in campaign tactics was needed ahead of the independence vote.

œWe now need to draw on different experience in the final year running up to the referendum itself,” Clegg told Moore in a letter.

Moore said he was disappointed to leave the office at this critical time and that he would continue to play a role in ensuring Scotland remains in the UK.

According to a government source, Moore™s low-key defence of Britain led to the removal. A more combative style would be needed for campaigning, the source added.

Earlier last week, British Prime Minister David Cameron urged Scottish people to vote against the country™s independence in 2014 referendum.

Speaking at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester, Cameron once again made a plea to Scottish voters to reject independence in the planned referendum next year, saying the country should œstick together”.
