A nuclear deal between Iran and six major powers is a œmajor victory” for Iran and a œdefeat” for Israel and Zionists in the US Congress.
œThe major victory regarding the agreement is that it gives the negotiators a chance to reach a far-reaching agreement in the longest span of time,” said James Petras, an American professor of sociology at Binghamton University in New York and author of 65 books.
œIt is a defeat of Israel™s attempt to push toward more severe sanctions and possibly a threat of war. I think it is also a victory over the Zionists in the US Congress and their clients who were pushing for additional sanctions,” Petras said.
œAs far as the substance of the agreement, I think the credit has to go to Iran which has made a very flexible accommodation in terms of the production of enriched uranium,” he added.
œThey (Iranians) did secure recognition that Iran has the right to enrich uranium and that is a very big recognition.”
Petras said one question that remains is whether the US and its allies with respect and abide by the deal. œThis is a question that needs to be carefully investigated because we have in the past seen Washington sign agreements and then not comply with them … it™s also very important to have a commission overseeing the compliance by the France, the US, England, Russia etc to make sure they abide by the agreement.”
The nuclear deal was announced on Sunday following the talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — the US, Britain, China, France, Russia — plus Germany.
A recent poll showed a majority of Americans support a diplomatic agreement between Iran and the six world powers.
