CDC Memory-Holes “Unacceptable” Ebola Safety Guide

A CDC safety guide that was flagged up by a prominent doctor as dangerously wrong has been quietly removed from the agency’s website, despite the fact that CDC head Thomas Frieden defended the instructions on live TV.

Calling the CDC’s instructional guide “unacceptable”, George Washington University hospital laboratory director Dr. Jonathan Reiner noted last week that government produced diagrams showed health care workers with exposed areas of skin around the face and neck.

“This is from CDC web page for Ebola personal protective equipment,” Reiner tweeted. “Notice exposed skin at face & neck. Unacceptable.”

Reiner also noted that the advice for removing protective gloves is simply “wrong” and increases the risk of contamination.

Frieden was called out about the inaccuracies by Fox News host Megan Kelly. Despite the obvious faults with the diagram, and the fact that he had even been filmed “double gloving” and in a full body hazmat suit when visiting Ebola patients, Frieden denied that the instructions were wrong.

Now, however, the CDC has removed the materials from their website. The link to the PDF that was here, now turns up a ‘page not found’ notice.

When checking the link via internet archive site Wayback Machine, the link to the now-deleted poster is viewable.

To date, the CDC has failed to explain why the materials have been removed, prompting some, including Louis Ide, a member of the European Parliament, to demand answers:

This is, once more, indicative of a seemingly endless string of calamities at the hands of the CDC and the government that has contributed to the outbreak of the Ebola virus within the United States, and the panic and fear that goes with it.

From allowing a Ebola infected nurse to fly from Texas to Ohio, to allowing unprotected police and clean up crews into the first patient’s infected apartment, the CDC has dropped the ball every step of the way.

It is clear that this agency is ill prepared to deal with this medical emergency. It is now down to independent medical experts, alternative media outlets, and activists alike to force the government to address the fact that the border is still wide open to flights from Ebola ravaged nations, and even then it may already be too late.
