A majority of people in the United States are supporting the conclusion of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the six global powers, a new poll has indicated.
The survey conducted by Washington Post-ABC News finds 56 percent support the July 14 agreement that is set to limit Iran’s nuclear energy program in exchange for lifting sanction against Tehran.
It also showed only 37 percent oppose the international agreement.
The same poll was also conducted after the two sides reached a framework agreement in April and 59 percent of Americans backed and 31 percent opposed the deal.
On Monday, the UN Security Council unanimously endorsed a draft resolution turning into international law the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries last week.
All 15 members of the Security Council voted for the draft resolution, setting the stage for the lifting of sanctions against Iran.
The resolution calls for the “full implementation” of the Vienna agreement “on the timetable established,” and urges UN member countries to facilitate the process.
