Introduction to On-page SEO

Onpage SEO is defined as search engine optimization which occurs within a website. It is a critical step for obtaining a high search engine ranking for a web page.

Onpage SEO is very simple and can be done without much effort but if done correctly, can be very effective in securing a good position for your website in the search engines.

Meta tags provide detailed data on the webpage and are very useful to the search engines. If managed properly, Meta tags help the search engines to categorize a webpage more efficiently, which lead to a better ranking and ultimately more incoming traffic.

It simply tells the search spiders and human visitors about your website.

Use sufficient keywords to get traffic but do not spam. Only enter a maximum of 5 keywords in the “Keywords” box, as using too many may categorize you as a spammer. A keyword Meta tag should look like this:

< META Name="Keywords" Content="website ideas,brainstorm ideas,infopreneur,build successful website,create a website" >

This also applies to the description Meta tag. Again, it is important to not be a spammer. Try to think as the Meta description as marketing for the content on your web page. Your specific keyword should only be mentioned once.

< META Name="Description" Content="A guide that helps you find great website ideas. A tutorial that helps you evaluates ideas and finds the perfect niche." >

Headline tag is also important. It is not necessary, but recommended for on-page SEO. A good tip is to use your main keyword in your headline:

< H1 > Learn how to get free web traffic < /H1>

DTD lines (or Document Type Definition) are not necessary for a web page and will not affect how it is displayed in browsers. But DTD lines are picked up by search engine algorithms. Essentially, they tell the search engines how the web page’s code is written, therefore it is very important to have an accurate DTD code. Websites that are built with Adobe Dreamweaver automatically creates the code.

A simpler form of on-page SEO is keyword density. Having the right keywords is essential. If you are looking to make money with a website, then try using keywords with a high demand and little competition.

A useful free keyword tool is freekeywords.wordtracker.com. It is very important not to overuse keywords, as your website could be classified as spam. Aim to use your main keyword for every 180 words.

Always remember what your niche is. It may be tempting to write about everything that is in demand, but this is a bad idea. By sticking to the same niche, your marketing is more effective and it allows your website to have a better search engine ranking.

If your website covers everything, it is difficult to get targeted traffic. It’s best to stick with your niche and create high quality content.

In-context inks are something that search engines love. But do not spam by using too many links. It is good practice to check your links, as search engines do not like broken links and they make your website look unprofessional. Internal links are a great way to build up your own page. A lot of webmasters miss this opportunity — don’t be one of them!
