Cheney die van oorlogsmisdaden wordt beschuldigd
BBC | Een hoogste assistent aan vroegere Staatssecretaris Colin Powell heeft een het steken aanval op de V.S. Ondervoorzitter Dick Cheney over misbruik van gevangenen door de troepen van de V.S. gelanceerd. Col. Lawrence Wilkerson beschuldigde M. Cheney van het negeren van een besluit door President Bush betreffende de behandeling van gevangenen in de oorlog op verschrikking.
Vandaag gevraagd door BBC of zou M. Cheney van oorlogsmisdaden kunnen worden beschuldigd, zei hij: „Het is een interessante vraag.“
„Zeker is het een binnenlandse misdaad om verschrikking te bepleiten,“ hij voegde toe.
„En ik zou, voor wat waard is het verdenken, is het eveneens een internationale misdaad.“
Dit is een buitengewone aanval door een mens die tot vroeger op het jaar de collega van M. Cheney's in de oudste was van het team bereikt van Bush, zegt BBC Justin Webb in Washington.
Col. Wilkerson heeft in het verleden de ondervoorzitter van verantwoordelijkheid voor de voorwaarden beschuldigd die tot het misbruik van gevangenen leidden.
Maar dit keer is hij veel verder gegaan, zou het schijnen om M. Cheney voor te stellen de lasten van oorlogsmisdaden moeten onder ogen zien, voegt onze correspondent toe.
De vragen van de intelligentie
Hij zei dat er twee kanten van het debat binnen het beleid van Bush over de behandeling van gevangenen waren.
M. Powell en meer dovishleden hadden het plakken aan de overeenkomsten van Genève bepleit, die de marteling van gevangenen belemmeren.

Ondertussen, wilde de andere partij „hoofdzakelijk alle beperkingen“ afschaffen.
M. Bush keurde een compromis, dat „goed Genève in feite alle maar gelijkaardige gevangenen al-Qaeda en al-Qaeda“ zou regeren.
„Wat ik zeg is dat, onder de bescherming van de ondervoorzitter, de secretaresse van defensie [Donald Rumsfeld] zich uit bewoog om te doen wat zij in de eerste plaats, alhoewel de voorzitter een besluit had genomen dat duidelijk een compromis was,“ Col. Wilkerson wilden zei.
Hij zei dat hij de schuld op de kwestie van gevangenemisbruik en naoorlogs planning voor Irak „vrij vrij en“ vierkant bij de voeten van M. Cheney's legde.
„ik bekijk het verband tussen M. Cheney en M. Rumsfeld zoals zijnd die deze twee mislukkingen in het bijzonder veroorzaakte, en ik zie dat de voorzitter niet ook niet van verantwoordelijk hen… houdt zodat moet ik wat schuld bij zijn voeten leggen ook,“ hij ging.
In the BBC interview, Col Wilkerson also developed his views on whether or not pre-war intelligence was deliberately misused by the White House.
He said that he had previously thought only honest mistakes were made.
But recent revelations about doubts in the intelligence community that appear to have been suppressed in the run-up to the war have made him question this view.

ReplyCheney should be impeached & indicted for war crimes & crimes against the American people. It was Cheney who controlled the 911 WTC bombings & plane attacks. Having said that, All Bush neocons should be held responsible for 911 & starting illegal wars in the Middle East!

ReplyThis government is in full “loot everything before it all burns” mode. The last days of the US empire are coming to a close. Many peolpe try to tell me that, “Oh, this happened in 1929 and we came out of it.” or, “Oh, nothing happened as a result of Viet Nam (violent revolution).”, but there are many, many dynamics in play now. Our economy is crashing, our fule has become unaffordable, our food is becoming unaffordable, the middle class is all but extinct. When a nation is starving, being oppressed and desparate, that nation will revolt. We will revolt against the world around us or revolt against our government. Either case, when we attack Iran and the lines are drawn. The US will be attacked from outside and from within. Thanks for the memories.

ReplyThe problem with putting Cheney on trial is that the only way you can execute him is putting a stake through his heart. This could be interpreted as a cruel and unusual punishment, therefore mankind is stuck with him forever. I think that he is the first vampire vice president in our history but I have to check on that.

ReplyBoy I get a kick out listenin’ to you Brits… Such brave armchair revolutionaries, ready at moments notice to castigate Americans for their inaction and failure to revolt… Let’s see, when was the last English Civil War? Been a few centuries, huh… The memory of the blood of brothers spilled in combat on the same field is fading a bit, eh? Well, it is still relatively fresh on this side of the pond and I would further point out that if Americans ever wish to refresh our memories of the joys of civil strife, we need only look back to the 1960’s or tour the still blackened ruins of South Central Los Angeles.
No my friends revolution and civil war is a very serious business, not something one can engage in while raising children and holding down the old 9 to 5… But those who truly admire America can take heart, for though our Constitution may be under assault it has weathered worse and America and the world has prospered by its success. The tilt toward the needs of Capital and the amoral behavior of the stateless minions of the Corptocracy will be balanced, the crimes that led America to the brink of dictatorship will be addressed, but they will be addressed by Americans, using our ballots to defend our liberty.
As long as we can speak freely there will be no revolution, when you can no longer hear our voices, then you will know…
