Un juez federal ha tomado una medida significativa en desmontar la pared del secreto que la administración de Bush ha construido innecesario alrededor de la casa blanca.

Juzgue Royce Lamberth gobernó que los registros blancos de los visitantes de la casa eran expedientes públicos y que el público tenía una derecha de verlos.

Los registros, mantenidos por el servicio secreto, habían sido públicos hasta 2006, cuando la administración de Bush, que adhiere al principio que su negocio es nadie pero su el propio, declaró que los registros eran expedientes presidenciales y lo exime así de la libertad del acto de la información bajo doctrina del privilegio ejecutivo.

Executive privilege is intended to protect the confidentiality and candor of the advice the president receives. The logs say only who visited the White House, when and for how long; they contain nothing about the substance of the visits.

It might shed light, however, on White House political machinations.

The White House says it will appeal, using that as an excuse not to comment on the legal setback. One day, it is to be hoped, Congress and the courts will throw open the doors and windows of the Bush administration and the sun will shine in. Unfortunately, it is likely to be long after it has left office.
