“Would you favor or oppose the impeachment by Congress of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney?”

Favor: 39 percent.

Oppose: 55 percent.

Undecided/Don’t Know: 6 percent.

The survey of 621 registered voters has been weighted for age, race, gender and political affiliation. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

About four out of 10 Americans favor impeaching the president and vice president. But the biggest news from this survey is not the overall results, but the opinions of independent voters, who usually decide presidential elections.

Forty-two percent of independents want Bush and Cheney impeached. These aren’t just voters who disapprove of the White House. Instead, they’re for initiating a process that could remove them from office.

Tower asked Bob Barr, the former congressman who initiated the impeachment process for Clinton, if the polls were near these. Barr replied, ” “I’m not sure we — [the leaders behind Clinton’s impeachment] — ever really had hard polling numbers in favor of impeachment that were this high when we were in the midst of the process. Perhaps, but I don’t recall it.”

The thing about polls like this is they can affect the populace. Once people see that so many people support impeachment, the idea gets easier for others to consider. Of course, the way those people now opposing impeachment find out about it is from the lamestream media– the morning and evening news. Will they report on this poll? Not likely. The lamestream media tend to stay with their own polling. And they’re not asking the question.

The best bet for changing that situation– write Keith Olbermann, Lou Dobbs, Jack Cafferty, Rosie O’Donnell (before she leaves The View) and get them to lean on their networks to add the question to polling.

If the Mainstream media start to talk about it, if they “stir the pot,” the numbers will change– will go up. As the corruption stories unfold, the numbers, as they rise, will put pressure on Bush’s last bastion of support– honest evangelicals. They will put pressure on the Republicans in congress who will, eventually, to save their own necks and the future of their party, take THE WALK to the whitehouse, telling Bush to resign.
