War Hero or War Criminal?

John McCain has left the planet, amid contrails of encomia exalting him as an “American” hero, even from the likes of Bernie Sanders and Alexandra Ocasia-Cortez.

You say you want a revolution

We all want to change the channel

We’re all going to know that, baby, you’re just the same

Here is a piece that Cockburn and I wrote in 1999 about a psychiatric evaluation of McCain underwent while a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. The top war-monger in Congress has been Senator John McCain, Republican from Arizona, seeker of the Republican presidential nomination. In one rhetorical bombing run after another, McCain has bellowed for “lights out in Belgrade” and for NATO to “cream” the Serbs. At the start of May he began declaiming in the US senate for the NATO forces to use “any means necessary” to destroy Serbia.
