A US Special Forces soldier has been killed while engaged in anti-Daesh operations in eastern Afghanistan.
“The soldier was mortally wounded late Saturday during an operation in Nangarhar province” said US Navy Captain Bill Salvin on the NATO-led Afghan Resolute Support mission’s official twitter account.
Salvin added that the exact circumstances of the Special Forces operator’s death was still not clear and that further information would be announced shortly.
Currently some 8,400 US troops are stationed in different bases in Afghanistan.
The country is still suffering from insecurity and violence years after the United States and its allies invaded the country as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The military invasion removed the Taliban from power, but their militancy continues to this day.
