US police have shot and killed a mentally-ill African-American man at his apartment in the state of Georgia.
The victim identified as Jamarion Rashad Robinson, 26, was shot dead by police officers in East Point, a neighborhood near Atlanta on Friday afternoon, said Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman Scott Dutton.
Police spokesman Cliff Chandler said the incident occurred when the officers attempted to make contact by knocking on the door to serve an arrest warrant allegedly for an assault against police officers in Atlanta on July 28, but Robinson would not come out of his apartment.
He claimed Robinson fired a shot when they eventually breached the front door. Police in return shot and killed him. No officer was injured in the incident.
