US officials who have a hand in coups d’état in different countries are never tried as they commit such crimes with total impunity, says a political commentator.
James Petras made the remarks on Friday in an interview with Press TV when asked about President Barack Obama who has admitted the United States was “slow to speak out for human rights” after Argentina’s US-backed military coup brought the dictators to power.
Obama, who spoke Thursday at a ceremony at Remembrance Park in Buenos Aires to mark the 40th anniversary of the coup, stopped short of apologizing for Washington’s support for the military dictatorship.
“I think the evidence over the years proves that the US was actually involved in the coup, its military attaché in Buenos Aires was in on the planning of the coup, the timing of the coup,” Petras said.
