Hundreds of British police officers have allegedly got away with sexually assaulting crime victims because authorities fail to take action against the officers, a report has revealed.
A study by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) described the scale of the sex abuse as the most serious form of corruption.
Data collected by the watchdog identified 436 cases of abuse of power for sexual gain in England and Wales in the past two years.
“This is the most significant corruption challenge for the police, as it betrays the trust of the public – particularly some of the most vulnerable people in society,” HM Inspector Mike Cunningham said , as cited in the statement on HMIC website.
