Ryan calls for a ‘unified’ GOP government led by Trump

The Speaker of the US House of Representatives Paul Ryan has called on all Republicans to unite behind GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, signaling the end of a bitter row with the party’s presidential nominee.

Ryan wrote in a CNN article on Saturday that Americans had to choose Trump over his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton if they were fed up with “the current path of decline” and wanted a “better way that offers more freedom.”

Ryan, the most senior elected Republican in the country, said the party’s current lineup of congressional candidates allows for a “unified Republican government” which would fight issues like poverty and border security under Trump’s leadership.

“If Republicans do not turn out — if we sit this one out — we will open the door not just to Hillary Clinton but also a Democratic Congress eager to give her a blank check,” he warned.
