Donald Trump has announced that former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani will not join his incoming administration, as the US president-elect has widened his search to select the next American secretary of state.
Trump said in a written statement issued on Friday evening that Giuliani had removed his name from consideration for any position at the State Department during a meeting with him on November 29.
“Rudy would have been an outstanding member of the cabinet in several roles, but I fully respect and understand his reasons for remaining in the private sector,” he stated.
“Rudy Giuliani is an extraordinarily talented and patriotic American. I will always be appreciative of his 24/7 dedication to our campaign after I won the primaries and for his extremely wise counsel,” he added.
