Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini is pushing back against the bombardment of criticism over his strong stance against illegal immigration.

The unelected Vice President of the European Commission, Maros Sefcovic, has said regarding the rise of anti-migration, anti-EU politicians to government in Italy that “we are all worried”.

Mr. Sefcovic went on to say:

“I have been to Italy many times and I was always impressed by how this great, important European country was honestly pro-EU.

It’s truly a new situation for us. We have to ensure that, in the future, Italy returns to being the great G7 country that is strongly pro-EU again”.
