Planned Parenthood did more than 2 million abortions while receiving federal funding through appropriations approved by the House of Representatives when the House was controlled by Republicans from the beginning of 2011 through the beginning of 2019, according to abortion numbers published in Planned Parenthood’s annual reports.
When the Republicans took control of the House in January 2011 after winning a majority in the November 2010 elections, the government was running on a continuing resolution that was set to expire on March 4, 2011.
On March 2, 2011, President Barack Obama signed the first continuing resolution to fund the government that had been approved by the Republican-controlled House. That CR permitted continued federal funding of Planned Parenthood.
All appropriations laws enacted since then were approved by the Republican majority that retained control of the House until the beginnng of this month. None of those appropriations prohibited funding of Planned Parenthood.
During the entire time the Republican-majority House controlled the purse strings of the federal government, it allowed federal funding of Planned Parenthood to continue.
