British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced that she wants to reconvene talks with the European Union (EU) over United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the bloc.
Addressing senior ministers on Tuesday, May said the Brexit negotiations are expected to restart later this week.
She added that the UK and the EU are very close to an agreement with “only a small number of issues outstanding.”
“The PM said intensive work had been taking place in recent weeks and the UK and European Commission were very close to getting agreement with only a small number of issues outstanding,” May’s spokesman said.
British government’s head of the talks David Davis has also reported progress in talks with Brussels.
“We recognise as we exit the EU we must respect the integrity of the single market and the customs union. But we are equally clear we must respect the integrity of the United Kingdom,” he said on Tuesday.
