US President Donald Trump has renewed a Twitter feud with Senator Jeff Flake, suggesting his political career is “toast” after the Arizona Republican was caught on an open microphone criticizing the president and Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.
In candid remarks following a town hall meeting in Mesa on Friday, Flake said the Republican Party could be “toast” if it becomes synonymous with President Trump.
Flake made the remarks while talking to the mayor of the Phoenix suburb of Mesa offstage, apparently unaware that the microphone attached to his lapel was still on when he said, “[If we] become the party of Roy Moore and Donald Trump, we are toast.”
Trump fired back on Sunday afternoon, tweeting that the Arizona senator “is unelectable.”
