US Attorney General Jeff Sessions has rejected the accusation of lying about contacts between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and the Russian government.
Sessions, who was testifying before lawmakers from the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, denied having any information about alleged contacts between Trump’s inner circle and the Russian government’s agents during the 2016 presidential campaign.
“I did not, and I’m not aware of anyone else that did,” Sessions said. “I don’t believe that happened.”
The attorney general, who was one of the first high-profile supporters of Trump’s election campaign, appeared before the Senate committee for the first time.
Democratic members of the Judiciary Committee claim Sessions’ past remarks have been inconsistent with new revelations regarding former presidential campaign aide George Papadopoulos and another campaign adviser.
