US Senator Bernie Sanders could defeat President Donald Trump in the 2020 elections if he is nominated by the Democratic Party, an American analyst in Virginia says.
Sanders announced Tuesday he is launching his election campaign, challenging the incumbent US president.
“If someone like Sanders were able to get the Democratic Party nomination, I think he would have… a good chance of defeating Trump in the election,” said Preston, chief editor of AttacktheSystem.com.
“Trump would have the incumbent’s advantage, but Sanders would have … a certain kind of appeal that certain Democrats wouldn’t have,” Preston told Press TV on Tuesday.
Preston noted that incumbent president usually wins a second term.
“I am not saying that he [Sanders] would defeat Trump, but he would be a competitive candidate,” Preston said.
