Hundreds of protesters have gathered in New York City and Washington to condemn US President Donald Trump’s “fascist administration” over his immigration policies and travel ban.
During Thursday’s rally in Lower Manhattan, protesters denounced the government’s travel ban and the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy (DACA).
Speakers at the march described White House officials as being white supremacists who are spreading fear and dividing the country.
DACA was a US immigration policy established by the administration of former President Barack Obama that allowed individuals who illegally entered the country as children, who are known as “dreamers,” to receive a renewable two-year work permit and avoid deportation.
The policy was revoked by the Trump administration in September 2017. Nearly 700,000 “dreamers” face deportation by March after their work permits expire.
