Boris Johnson has warned that the United Kingdom will end up like a colony to the European Union following Brexit next year, shortly after resigning as Britain’s foreign minister.
Johnson stepped down on Monday over Prime Minister Theresa May’s plan for Brexit, which include remaining closely aligned to EU rules on manufactured goods, Reuters reported.
“We are truly headed for the status of a colony – and many will struggle to see the economic or political advantage of that particular arrangement,” Johnson said in his resignation letter.
Johnson became the third minister in 24 hours to quit the government rather than back May’s strategy for Brexit.
