Authorities in North Carolina are trying to find out whether Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has incited a riot at one of his rallies in Fayetteville.
The decision by the authorities comes after a black protester was punched in the face by a Trump supporter on Wednesday.
John McGraw, 78, was charged with assault, battery and disorderly conduct after sucker-punching Rakeem Jones at a chaotic rally.
Trump said he was contemplating paying McGraw’s legal fees at the time that he himself is under investigation over possible law-breaking on Wednesday.
“We are continuing to look at the totality of these circumstances, including any additional charges against Mr. McGraw, including the potential of whether there was conduct on the part of Mr. Trump or the Trump campaign which rose to the level of inciting a riot, and including the actions or inactions of our deputies,” the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
