The US does not want the years-long conflict in Syria to end and the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad was always on the agenda, according to American political analyst Myles Hoenig.
Outgoing US President Barack Obama is “making sure the next president inherits a Syria at war, with full US backing, and relations with Russia on the brink,” said Hoenig, a Green Party candidate for Congress.
“Regime change, however, was always part of the agenda. The last thing that this administration would want is peace breaking out in Syria, as we see with the liberation of Aleppo,” Hoenig told Press TV on Tuesday.
“Continuing to arm the ‘rebels’, most likely ISIS and other such fanatics, only exacerbates the tension and warring going on,” he added.
“Regardless of what US foreign policy claims it is, there is no legal justification for them to even be in Syria, let alone arming Takfiri rebels to take down the legitimate government.”
