Also on the show: What was called possibly the biggest gang raid in New York history, with involvement by Homeland Security, the FBI and the BATF, drove similarly sweeping media coverage. A Daily News headline was typical, describing those arrested as “Bronx Gang Members Responsible for Nine Years of Murders and Drug-Dealing.” No “allegedly,” no “police say,” and no time, really, to hear from the community that was set upon in the pre-dawn by agents in military gear with helicopters overhead. Josmar Trujillo is a writer and organizer; he addresses the idea of police raids as a response to violence and why corporate media are so drawn to it. We’ll hear from him on that.
