The family of the failed Brussels bomber, Oussama Zariouh, have told Belgian media that he wasn’t a terrorist.
Zariouh’s dad told VRT his son “did not follow ISIS and was certainly not a member of a terrorist group.”
His family, Moroccan nationals who live in jihadi hotspot Molenbeek, say he was a moderate Muslim who enjoyed music and going out and that they hadn’t noticed any changes in his behavior recently.
They also say they have hired the services of a lawyer, as they “want proof he did it” and claim that reports were “false” and “completely inaccurate.”
His sister said: “I cannot believe that my brother wanted to commit suicide or wanted to try and killed anyone else. He was a sensitive person.”
From what we know so far, Zariouh detonated a suitcase bomb which did detonate but failed to explode, before running towards a soldier shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’. He was shot dead and thankfully, nobody was injured.
While it’s not uncommon for families to not notice changes in people’s behaviour, it is utterly delusional to believe the security services have the wrong person.

We’ve seen this a lot recently, with the families of dead terrorists proclaiming their relatives innocence.
It’s a wonder how we can ever hope radicalised jihadis will ever be reported to the police before carrying out an attack when their families are in such denial.
