A ‘Blistering Critique’ With a ‘Great New Metaphor for Hippie-Punching’

Projected Employment: Dollars & Sense

Dollars & Sense chart (11-12/15) projecting increased employment under Bernie Sanders’ proposed policies.

Dave Lindorff of This Can’t Be Happening! (2/19/16) cited FAIR (2/17/16) on  New York Times reporter Jackie Calmes’ slam of Sandersnomics (2/15/16):

The so-called “left-leaning” economists quoted by her, however, included not one genuine left or even left-leaning economist. Rather, they were a bunch of mainstream economists who, while “not working for Hillary Clinton,” as Calmes notes, have in fact worked for either the administration of Barack Obama or of Bill Clinton (a point she largely fails to note). As media critic Doug Henwood of Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR) pointed out in a blistering critique of the Times article, referring to the economists quoted in the piece, “So slight is their leftward lean that it would require very sensitive equipment to measure.”

Dollars & Sense (2/19/16) also included Henwood’s piece for FAIR on a reading list on the controversy over projections of increased growth and employment under Sanders’ proposed economic policies. It describes the FAIR piece as “a very good critique of the Calmes NYT piece, plus a great new metaphor for hippie-punching–the ‘unicorn hunt.’”
