One pilot has been killed as a couple of US warplanes have crashed during separate incidents in the country.
The pilot of a Blue Angles fighter jet lost his life during practice for a weekend show in the city of Tennessee.
The F/A-18 jet crashed not long after takeoff in Smyrna, about 24 miles (39 km) southeast of Nashville, Town Manager Harry Gill told reporters.
“It’s been confirmed that it was in fact a Blue Angel that went down and there was one fatality. Our police and fire departments responded appropriately. There were no other injuries, no civilian injuries. We currently have the crash scene sealed off pending an investigation by the United States military,” said the official.
The crash occurred about 2 miles (3 km) from an airport runway while the Blue Angels were practicing for a weekend air show, the Navy said, adding that the cause of the crash was being investigated. The pilot’s name was not made public.
