Don’t Just Resell, Sell!

Alright. You know that your SEO Reselling business isn’t really yours. Although your contract says that you are “partners”, you are a hundred percent aware that you are just getting your service from a higher authority of sorts: your SEO Provider. Technically–since he calls the shots–you can probably say that he’s the boss. You cannot give your clients anything without him. And deep down inside, you know that the partnership exists only on paper.

Do you think this way? If so, then sorry to say, you’re a loser: You’re probably the sort of SEO Reseller who waits for business to land at his doorstep. This attitude towards reselling won’t work if you want to be successful in the business. Reselling takes effort. It requires more dedication than a regular job would.

You’ve got great marketing techniques, communication skills, and charisma. But you still feel as though business is plodding along. The thing is, this is your show: There’s no one to tell you what to do, direct you towards clients, decide on what sort of packages to offer to prospective customers, and so on. You determine all that. So, if you are plodding along, you had better look inward, towards yourself.

Originally designed to expand the then-starting Search Engine Optimization Market, SEO Reselling opened new job avenues for the working class: people like you and me now have the opportunity to have businesses of our own. Long discriminated against by employers who preferred to promote people with college–sometimes Ivy League–degrees, people getting nowhere on the corporate ladder jumped at the chance to “partner” in a business.

Not surprisingly, a lot of resellers come from regular 8-to-5 jobs and are used to having employer-employee relationships. You may thus feel at a loss when there isn’t anyone to provide direction. Sure, you can ask your provider for advice, but the ultimate decision falls on you. That being said, if you want to get out of the rut you’re in, you have to change the way you think and, subsequently, the way you do things.

You have to own the business. Once you become an SEO Reseller, you literally have to think of yourself as the co-owner of your provider’s business. Stop thinking like an employee. You are a business owner, not “just” a reseller.

SEO Reselling is a business, and the relationship between provider and reseller cannot be equated with an employment-based relationship. The problem with many resellers today is that they treat the business like their old jobs; they see their providers as bosses, and they rely heavily on them instead of directing their own moves.

You are a valuable part of the SEO Provider’s business. Yes, you are. Sure, you need your provider to give you something to sell, but he needs you just as much to ensure that his business survives. Without resellers, demand for the provider’s services would plummet. The relationship is synergistic, and the sooner you start thinking of yourself as part owner and begin acting as one, the quicker you’ll be able to achieve the results you want.
