The Pentagon says it is expanding its cyber attacks against Daesh (ISIL) citing the significant role of such warfare in campaign against the Takfiri terrorist group.
The United States aims is to “disrupt ISIL’s command and control, to cause them to lose confidence in their networks, to overload their network so that they can’t function, and do all of these things that will interrupt their ability to command and control forces there, control the population and the economy,” Defense Secretary Ashton Carter told reporters on Monday.
He also said the US-led coalition has seized the momentum in the 18-month-old fight allegedly against the terrorists.
“Because of our strategy and our determination to accelerate our campaign, momentum is now on our side and not on ISIL’s,” Carter stated.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joe Dunford, who was also taking questions during the briefing, pointed to anti-ISIL campaign in Iraq, saying the US is trying to retake the key city of Mosul.
