UK government’s spending cuts will see over 22,000 police jobs being lost.
According to The Guardian, a private estimate says the number of police officers in England and Wales would fall to about 100,000. This is much lower than previously expected.
The paper wrote that the estimate “is based on the lowest expected cut of 25% in the funding that government provides for policing between now and 2020.”
There are currently about 125,000 officers in England and Wales.
Earlier, the chancellor George Osborne told Home Office that funds the police, that their cuts would range from 25%-40%.
