BBC’s Dave Lee Travis in Court over Sexual Abuse Claims

Today the courts heard how former BBC Radio 1 DJ, Dave Lee Travis, was an “opportunist” who targeted young women over a 32-year campaign of sex attacks.

Travis is charged with 13 counts of indecent assault dating between 1976 and 2003, and one count of sexual assault in 2008.

In her opening statements, Prosecutor Miranda Moore QC said:

“The offences vary in gravity. All are sexual in nature, involving unwanted contact by this defendant on much younger women, both over clothing and under clothing.

“Young women who are vulnerable and he’s an opportunist who takes the opportunity when it presents itself to him”.

She then told how he allegedly attacked a young fan:

“He ran his hands up her thigh. She began to scream. She was crying. She thought he was going to rape her. She was terrified.”

Travis denies all the charges.
