The Laptop Revolution: Smaller is Definitely Better

by Johan Arif

Mini lap-tops, or notebooks as they are so aptly named, have come to change the way we work. For the same amount of money that you’d spend on a regular laptop, or very likely even less, you are now able to work anywhere.

Notebooks have more to them than just being smaller. If you have tried to get onto a wireless network with a normal sized laptop, you know the kind of grief it can give you. Mini laptops have been designed to go around this — they will connect to virtually any wireless network without you having to fumble around with settings.

Talk to a few people who have experienced the convenience of having a notebook. The first thing they will likely tell you is that they are relieved of having to lug a laptop around. “Its small, it’s lightweight and it fits in my bag like I was carrying a book. In fact, some of the books I have are larger than my notebook” says a PHD student at the UCLA. He has memories of his laptop days. “I can’t compare it. I now realize how much weight I would take with me everywhere. And it’s amazing that I haven’t lost any of the functionality that I had before — everything works just as well if not better.”

Clearly, the world of computing is shifting, and it’s a shift towards convenience and ease of use. Almost every computer manufacturer has created a mini-laptop. And as they continue to release model after model, more features are being added.

“We realized that more and more, work is become internet-centric. There is very little one can do when they do not have an internet connection. That’s why we made sure that we designed a smaller, more portable laptop that can hook onto wireless connections with ease” says an official at HP. And many other notebook manufacturers are quick to agree.

If you want to ease the amount of weight that you carry around and have the convenience of being able to get onto different wireless networks, a notebook is a great way to go. There are many different types and you may want to shop around. As with all things electronic, you will want to buy from an authorized dealer.
