De fotografen protesteren nieuwe antiterrorwet

Honderden fotografen protesteerden buiten de Werf van Schotland in Londen vanochtend aangezien een nieuwe wet die zij eisen hun vrijheid van kracht werd beperkt. Van vandaag, in het kader van sectie 76 van het Akte 2008 van het tegen-Terrorisme, „het illiciting, het publiceren of het communiceren de informatie over leden van de strijdkrachten, de intelligentiediensten en de politieambtenaren die waarschijnlijk zal nuttig aan een persoon zijn die of een handeling van terrorisme“ voorbereidt begaat zal een maximumgevangeniszin van 10 jaar dragen. De fotografen vrezen de politie de wet zal gebruiken om wettige beelden van protesten te verhinderen die worden genomen. Om de wet te merken, verzamelden minstens 300 fotografen zich buiten de Werf van Schotland „hun democratisch recht uitoefenen - en beelden“ nemen. De aanwezige politieambtenaren werden herhaaldelijk gefotografeerd, maar namen het protest in goede geest. Sommige fotografen droegen maskers en buitensporige kleding, terwijl anderen stickers droegen die zeiden: „Ik ben een fotograaf - niet een terrorist.“ Comedian Teken Thomas was bij het protest en vertelde de Krant van de Pers: „Ik ben een lid NUJ en een burger - dat is waarom ik hier ben. De „grotere bedreiging is geen fotografen - het is politie die de wet breekt bij protesten, ontkennend burgers van hun rechten.“ David Hoffman, een fotograaf met 32 jaar' ervarings, zei hij nu shinpads in zijn zak draagt, eisend was hij geschopt door politieambtenaren bij protesten. De „politie is vandaag mooi geweest - maar dat is niet altijd het geval,“ hij zei. De „recente protesten zijn zeer slecht geweest. Slechtst was vorig jaar Oktober, bij de Spoedmanifestatie van het Klimaat. „Één besteed koper zijn tijd die mijn been schopt. Daar bevonden met zijn kappen van de staalteen weg - en me, een silver-haired mens die schoppen. Ik ben nog brokken missend van mijn benen vijf maanden geworden.
„Zij willen u denken: Ik zal het niet daarna tijd behandelen. Zij hebben de FIT [de Voorwaartse Teams van de Intelligentie, die camera's] gebruiken gebruikt, hebben zij intimidatie gebruikt. „Zij zijn vandaag mooi geweest, maar het is de individuele ambtenaar die op van hem bij een protest van het achter-straat anti-bont is. Hij is minder verantwoordelijk. „Het is belangrijk de politie weet zij worden gelet op en waargenomen. Als u ziet wat niet gebeurt, uw minder democratische maatschappij. „Toen ik begon, werden de fotografen gezien vertegenwoordiger van de pers, een belangrijk deel van een openbare gebeurtenis. But over the last 30 years that has deteriorated. “They’re using the law as an excuse to stop photographers when, politically, they don’t want coverage. “Animal rights protests, peace marches, of course the poll tax – police are simply saying: We don’t want this in the paper.” Marc Vallee, protest co-organiser and a photographer well-known for covering protests, said: “This has been amazing. “Photographers are fed up with the way they have been treated for the last few years. “They are trying to do their job in a professional way and the counter-terrorism laws are being used against them. “I have had colleagues that have come out of the tube station to cover a protest, with press card, and officers have come across and said: I’m stopping you under section 44 [stop and search powers]. “What is that doing for press freedom?” When it was suggested police would not use the law to prevent lawful photography, Vallee said: “It would be wonderful if that were the case - but that hasn’t been the case. “They have given us reassurances, and I would he happy if they were right - but history suggests they won’t be.” Have Your Say: Photographers protest new antiterror law Please read our posting guidelines before posting.
