Boris Johnson zieht von den Bürgermeistern für Frieden aus
Durch Kate Hudson | Letzter Monat, Boris Johnson verkündete die Zurücknahme von Mitgliedschaft Londons der globalen `Bürgermeister für Friedens' Initiative. Dieses wurde von den Bürgermeistern von Hiroschima und von Nagasaki 1982, in einer Bemühung, jede mögliche andere Stadt zu verhindern gegründet, die ähnlichen Suffering durchläuft.
1945 wurden Atombomben auf die japanischen Städte von Hiroschima und von Nagasaki durch die US Luftwaffe, mit dem Ergebnis der Hunderte Tausenden Todesfälle fallengelassen, und die verheerenden Konsequenzen der Strahlung Vergiftung folgende Erzeugungen beeinflussend. Seit dieser Zeit haben Bürgermeister jener Städte einer Verantwortlichkeit geglaubt, sicherzustellen Leute, die Konsequenzen zu verstehen: das `, zum jeder möglicher Wiederholung der Ein-Bombe Tragödie zu verhindern, die Städte von Hiroschima und Nagasaki haben fortwährend gesucht, die Welt über die inhumane Grausamkeit der Kernwaffen zu erklären und durchweg gedrängt zu haben, daß Kernwaffen werden abgeschafft.'
Bürgermeister für Frieden ist kaum eine extreme Organisation. Es gibt z.Z. 2.277 Mitgliedsstädte in 129 Ländern, einschließlich Paris, Berlin, Rom, Ottawa, Los Angeles und Sydney. Mitglieder werden über vom politischen Spektrum gezeichnet. Tadatoshi Akiba, der Bürgermeister von Hiroschima, glaubt, daß die Rolle der Stadtbürgermeister, wenn sie Bewußtsein der Kernwaffen aufwirft, der Schlüssel ist, angenommen, Städte die Ziele der Kernwaffen sind.
Wir waren bewußt, als Boris Johnson wurde gewählt, daß er Großbritanniens Kernwaffesystem Trident, sowie der Krieg auf dem Irak stützte, aber es keinen Grund gibt, damit er Teilnahme an einem internationalen Körper zurückweist, der an der globalen Aufhebung der Kernwaffen festgelegt wird.
Jede konservative Regierung hat Teilnahme Großbritanniens am Kernnichtverbreitung-Vertrag gestützt, deren Ziel globale Kernabrüstung ist. Diese Entscheidung schlägt vor, daß Boris Johnson von diesem allgemeinen Ziel zurückzieht.
Diese Entscheidung beleidigt zu den Leuten von Hiroschima und von Nagasaki und zur Arbeit ihrer Bürgermeister für globalen Frieden und geht gegen die Ansichten der Majorität der britischen Leute, die globale Kernabrüstung stützen.
So warum hat Boris Johnson ausgezogen? Hat er kein Interesse für Frieden? Bürgermeister für Frieden wurden hergestellt, damit Städte und ihre Bewohner nicht mehr Kernvernichtung fürchten müssen - daß Städte die Ziele der Kernwaffen nicht mehr sein sollten. Ist Boris Johnson das Geben auf diesem Ziel hoch?
Johnson’s approach is in marked contrast to that of the former mayor, Ken Livingstone. Ken is a strong supporter of the peace movement and was a staunch ally during his terms in office and his moral commitment to peace and disarmament helped to work towards a culture of peace in London. This was demonstrated in many ways, not only on the nuclear issue, but also on the anti-war issue and — drawing this more widely — on building constructive and harmonious relationships between London’s many communities. In all of these areas, I believe he was in line with the majority opinions of London’s residents and working in their best interests. As Tadatoshi Akiba says, it is the residents of cities that suffer most in war.
In very stark contrast recently, was the different experiences of the two visits of President Bush, firstly in 2003, and secondly just a few weeks ago. In 2003, Mayor Livingstone supported our protests against Bush’s visit, and he welcomed the disabled US Vietnam veteran Ron Kovic to City Hall, to pay tribute to his work for peace. Our rally and demonstration proceeded peacefully and unimpeded. During Bush’s recent visit, the anti-war movement was prevented from demonstrating in Whitehall — signalling unnecessary restrictions on our right to protest — and a number of protestors were on the receiving end of police brutality. It is to be hoped that these incidents are not symptomatic of a new attitude in London, contemptuous of those who struggle for peace and disarmament, and cavalier with our right to peaceful protest.

Glad to see that the new mayor of my capital city doesn’t want peace or civil liberties (right to protest, freedom of speech, etc).
I’m actually a bit shocked at what I’ve read (interesting article, thanks!) but I shouldn’t be really! My more cynical side isn’t that shocked.
Would like to know Mr Johnson’s reasoning for pulling out of the “Mayors fo Peace”.
