Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi has expressed support for US assassination drone attacks in the country.
According to a report by The Associated Press on Friday, Hadi said on Thursday that US terror drone attacks were in accordance with an agreement signed between Washington and Yemenâ„¢s former dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh after September 11, 2001.
“Cooperation (with the US) in the field of combating terrorism is not a secret as we take part in the operation room in Djibouti and we have officers in Bahrain’s operation room with other world countries,” the Yemeni president said.
The US has come under fire for increasing its drone attacks in Yemen, where the people have held many demonstrations to condemn the violation of their national sovereignty.
On Sunday, thousands of Yemenis took to the streets of capital Sanaâ„¢a to protest against the rising number of US terror drone attacks in the country.
Å“These US drones target Yemenis everywhere. Yemen is however like one body. If part of it is affected then the whole body suffers. We call on the Yemeni government to bring about a solution to these American attacks,” one of the protesters told Press TV.
Washington has stepped up its assassination drone operations in Yemen over the past few years.
The US claims it is targeting militants but witness reports and figures provided by local officials indicate that civilians are the main victims of the attacks.
