Wolfowitz’s World Bank deputy tells him to quit البنك الدولي وولفويتز نائب وتقول له بالانسحاب
Paul Wolfowitz’s tenure as president of the World Bank may be decided today by the bank’s governing board, after he was abandoned by the Bush administration and faced a revolt led by his own deputy. بول وولفويتز منصب رئيس البنك الدولي قد قرر ان يكون اليوم من قبل مجلس ادارة البنك ، وبعد ان تم التخلى عنه من قبل إدارة بوش واجهت الثورة بقيادة نائب بلده.
When Mr Wolfowitz asked a meeting of senior staff yesterday what he could do to repair faith in his leadership, he was told bluntly to resign by Graeme Wheeler, a managing director of the bank and one of two deputies to the president. وعندما سألت السيد وولفويتز اجتماع لكبار الموظفين أمس ما يمكنه القيام به لاصلاح النية في قيادته ، وقيل له بوضوح ان تستقيل قبل غرايم هويلر ، المدير الاداري للبنك واحد ونائبين للرئيس.
Mr Wheeler - a well-respected New Zealander appointed to his post by Mr Wolfowitz last year - told the meeting of 30 vice-presidents at the bank’s headquarters in Washington that Mr Wolfowitz should go for the good of the organisation. السيد هويلر -- جيدة تحترم نيوزيلندا عين في منصبه من قبل السيد وولفويتز فى العام الماضى -- ابلغ الاجتماع 30 من نواب الرئيس فى مقر البنك فى واشنطن ان السيد وولفويتز يجب ان تذهب لصالح المنظمه. Several vice-presidents said they agreed with Mr Wheeler. عدة نواب للرئيس وقالت انها اتفقت مع السيد هويلر.
Mr Wolfowitz is said to have replied that he didn’t think his resignation would be in the bank’s best interests, and that he had no intentions of going. وقال السيد وولفويتز هو قد أجاب انه لا يعتقد استقالته ستكون في مصلحة البنك ، وانه ليس لديه اى نوايا الذهاب.
Sources inside the bank have described the situation as “civil war”. مصادر داخل البنك قد وصف الحاله بانها "حرب اهلية". The Bank’s staff association has called for Mr Wolfowitz to resign, and a group of senior staff have threatened to quit if he stays. البنك رابطة الموظفين وقد دعا السيد وولفويتز الى الاستقالة ، ومجموعة من كبار الموظفين قد هددت بالانسحاب من انه اذا بقي. Other staff are planning to wear blue ribbons to show their support for the calls for his resignation. الموظفين الأخرى تخطط لارتداء الازرق اشرطه لاظهار تأييدهم للتدعو الى استقالته.
The World Bank’s board, made up of 24 directors representing the bank’s member countries, has cancelled its previous agenda for today to discuss Mr Wolfowitz’s personal intervention to secure pay increases and benefits for his girlfriend, Shaha Riza, shortly after he took over as head of the bank. البنك الدولي المجلس ، وتتكون من 24 المديرين الذين يمثلون البلدان الاعضاء في البنك ، وقد تم الغاء قراراته السابقة لجدول اعمال اليوم لمناقشة السيد وولفويتز التدخل الشخصي لتأمين زيادات الاجور والفوائد لصديقته ، وشاها علي رضا ، وبعد فترة وجيزة توليه رئيسا للبنك.
Yesterday the Bush administration suggested it was prepared to see the board sanction Mr Wolfowitz - a signal that its patience is wearing thin. امس ادارة الرئىس جورج بوش اقترح انها على استعداد لرؤية المجلس جزاء السيد وولفويتز -- اشارة الى ان صبرها بدأ ينفد.
After reiterating that President Bush had “full confidence” in Mr Wolfowitz, a White House spokesman said: “I think the effort of the World Bank board should be to get to the facts, treat it with fairness and think of the long-term effectiveness of the institution.” وإذ تؤكد من جديد بعد ان كان الرئيس بوش قد "ثقة كاملة" فى السيد وولفويتز ، وقال متحدث باسم البيت الابيض : "اعتقد ان الجهد المبذول من مجلس ادارة البنك الدولي وينبغي للوصول الى الحقائق ، فإنه يعامل بانصاف واعتقد من الفعاليه الطويلة الاجل للمؤسسة. "
The careful formulation used by the White House indicated that it was washing its hands of Mr Wolfowitz, a bank source said. فإن صياغتها بطريقة متانيه يستخدمها البيت الابيض اشار الى انه تم غسل يديها من السيد وولفويتز ، وقال مصدر مصرفي.
Another sign that his defenders are giving up came in a damning editorial published in a staunchly Republican newspaper. علامة أخرى على أن المدافعين عن تخليها جاء في اللعنه التحرير التي نشرت في صحيفة الجمهوري بحماس. The Washington Times called on Mr Wolfowitz to step down as his leadership had been “rendered ineffective” by the scandal. دعت صحيفة واشنطن تايمز عن السيد وولفويتز الى التنحي كما قيادته كانت "المقدمة غير فعالة" من الفضيحه.
“Mr Wolfowitz has lost the reputation for ethical impeccability on which the World Bank relies,” the newspaper wrote. "السيد وولفويتز فقد سمعه اخلاقيه للغاية الاتقان الذي يعتمد البنك الدولي ،" وكتبت صحيفة.
Although many other newspapers, including the Financial Times and the New York Times, have already called on Mr Wolfowitz to go, the Washington Times is an insight into the thinking of conservative Republicans, who were delighted at Mr Wolfowitz’s appointment by President Bush in 2005. ورغم ان العديد من الصحف الاخرى ، بما في صحيفة الفايننشال تايمز وصحيفة نيويورك تايمز ، وقد سبق ان دعا السيد وولفويتز للذهاب ، واشنطن تايمز هو فتح نافذة على تفكير المحافظين الجمهوريين ، الذين كانوا مسرور السيد وولفويتز في التعيين من قبل الرئيس بوش في 2005.
Mr Wolfowitz had been a hero to many on the right for his prominent advocacy of the US invasion of Iraq when he worked for the Bush administration. السيد وولفويتز كان بطلا لكثير من المعنى الحق لصاحب الدعوة بارز من الغزو الامريكى للعراق عندما كان يعمل لدى ادارة بوش.
Since taking over as president of the World Bank, Mr Wolfowitz has redirected the bank’s priorities towards fighting corruption and encouraging good governance - an effort critics say is damaged by the controversy surrounding Ms Riza. منذ أن توليت منصبي رئيس البنك الدولي ، السيد وولفويتز قد تم التحويل اولويات المصرف نحو محاربة الفساد وتشجيع الحكم الرشيد -- محاولة النقاد قوله للضرر من جراء الجدل حول السيدة رضا.

Mr Wolfowitz was deputy secretary at the Pentagon at the time, and Mr Feith’s boss. وكان السيد وولفويتز نائب الامين في البنتاغون في ذلك الوقت ، والسيد فايث 'sبوس.
