Middle East expert William Beeman says the United States will continue its drone strikes despite civilian casualties.
Å“The drone strikes in the United States are highly controversial and the difficulty is that the US public doesnâ„¢t always understand that theyâ„¢re taking place on such a regular basis,” the professor of anthropology at The University of Minnesota said in a phone interview with Press TVâ„¢s US Desk on Monday.
Å“When they are revealed, we get a lot of protests among US citizens against them, but as you point out they are secret and the operations are secret,” Beeman added.
He made the remarks after the recent US drone attacks left several people dead in Pakistan and Yemen.
In a statement on Monday, Pakistanâ„¢s Foreign Ministry condemned the deadly US assassination drone strike in North Waziristan.
Å“These unilateral strikes are a violation of Pakistanâ„¢s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” it said.
Å“The government of Pakistan has consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive, entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications,” according to the Pakistani Foreign ministry statement.
Å“The difficulty with the drone strikes is that they target supposedly enemies of the United States, but at the same time there are civilian casualties in almost every case,” the analyst said.
