An Iranian lawmaker says Syria is on the front line of the fight against the Israeli regime, stressing that the warmongering policies of the United States are aimed at dealing a blow to the resistance front and guaranteeing Tel Aviv™s security.

œAmerican officials have repeatedly announced that Israel™s security is the security of the US, and under this pretext, they have fanned the flames of a civil war and conflict in this country (Syria) to, as they put it, break the axis of resistance,” spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran™s Majlis Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said on Friday.

œWestern countries and certain reactionary leaders of Arab states are trying to contain Iran™s growing influence in the region by breaking the [front] line [of the fight against the Israeli regime],” the Iranian legislator stated.

He added that Syria is among countries which make up the Islamic resistance front, but has been drawn into a civil war by the global hegemony, including the US and its allies, particularly the Israeli regime.

Naqavi Hosseini said US President Barack Obama withdrew his warmongering policies against Syria following the full support lent to the Syrian government and people by Muslim nations world over.

The rhetoric of war against Syria recently gained momentum, when the militants operating inside the country and the foreign-backed Syrian opposition claimed on August 21 that over a thousand people had been killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds on the outskirts of Damascus.

The Syrian government categorically rejects the allegation and says the militants carried out the attack to draw in military intervention.

On September 9, Syria welcomed a proposal made by Russia to put its chemical weapons stockpile under international control.
