Children were evacuated from the Sandy Hook Elementary School after a shooter opened fire on Dec. 14, 2012.
A military-style semiautomatic rifle which sprays bullets like a machine gun will soon be legally sold in the United States while the American society is suffering from a very high rate of gun violence.
CNN reported on Thursday that Texas-based Slide Fire will be selling a semiautomatic rifle, called the SFS BFR, which is fired by a belt instead of a magazine and can hold thousands of rounds of ammunition.
According to Slide Fire, the military-style assault rifle will be available as soon as this fall for $6,000.
œIt sprays like a fire hose,” said Brandon Renner, sales and marketing manager for Slide Fire. œWe recommend no more than 30 rounds on the belt, but one person could make it as big as they want.”
The US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has said that the SFS BFR is legal because it is a semiautomatic not a machine gun which is illegal in the US for most people.
Using an assault rifle sold legally to his mother, a shooter killed 20 first-grade school children and six staff members in a rampage at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14, 2012.
According to an interactive project between slate.com and the anonymous creator of the Twitter feed @GunDeaths, the US media have reported over 8,060 gun deaths across the US since the deadly shooting in Newtown.
However, slate.com says the actual number of deaths as of 9/14/2013, is roughly 24,280, over three times more than the numbers reported in media.
