‘US, Israel fear Iran political clout’

A political analyst says the US and the Israeli regime are afraid of Iran for being the ‘political mentor’ in the Middle East and not its nuclear program, Press TV reports.

“The real nuclear program that the West and particularly Israel is afraid of with regards to Iran, has nothing to do with splitting atoms in weapons of mass destruction, Mark Glenn, from the Crescent & Cross Solidarity Movement said in an interview with Press TV on Sunday.

“It has to do with Iran’s position in the Middle East and something of a spiritual and a political example for other countries to follow,” he added.

Glenn said Iran is the only country amongst these Middle Eastern players that has successfully toppled a US-backed regime in a “real revolution” in 1979 and has managed to secure independence from the West.

The analyst said that Washington and Tel Aviv are afraid that Iran will become a “political mentor” to other countries in the region, “at which point the US, the West and Israel will lose their grip on these countries.”

“The real thing that America, the West and Israel are afraid of with regards to Iran is not about building nuclear weapons, it is about Iran bringing stability to the region,” he added.

The United States, the Israeli regime and some of their allies have falsely accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran rejects the allegation and argues that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it is entitled to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

The IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of nuclear facilities in Iran, but has never found any evidence showing that Tehran’s nuclear energy program has been diverted toward non-civilian objectives.
