A political analyst says the United States is using Iran’s nuclear issue as an excuse to show its intrinsic hostility toward the country’s Islamic revolution, Press TV reports.
“I think the problem is not so much with Iran’s nuclear program. I think the main problem is with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the London-based political commentator, Chris Bambery, said in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday.
The analyst pointed out that Washington still feels humiliated for losing its key ally, the former Shah of Iran, after Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution and the ensuing hostage crisis.
“I think it’s also worth a mention that in the 1970s, Britain, America and Germany had no problem with an Iranian nuclear program because that was under the rule of the despot, the Shah. They were encouraging Iran to develop a nuclear program because the Shah was of course a key ally in the region,” he added.
The United States, Israel and some of their allies have falsely accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program. The US and certain other countries have imposed sanctions against the Islamic Republic over the unfounded allegation.
Iran has frequently declared that its nuclear energy program is solely civilian and has made it clear that any aggression against the country will definitely face a crushing response.
In addition, the International Atomic Energy Agency has never found any evidence during its inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities to show diversion toward military objectives.
